Grant, born and educated in Edmonton, graduated from NAIT in 1975 with honors in Business Administration. Grant has been in the insurance and financial planning field since 1978. In 1984, he received his CLU designation, his CHFC designation in 1990, and his CFP designation in 1996.Grant, together with Tom Kofin, founded the Kofin Financial Group in 1991.

Grant served on the executive of the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (Edmonton chapter) for 6 years as Treasurer and Vice president.

Grant’s community interests include having been an instructor-trainer with the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation for 13 years, and a volunteer for 20 years with Edmonton Klondike Days (last 10 years as member of the parade executive). Grant served on the 1984 Grey Cup Committee and recently worked with the Spirit of Edmonton on the 1997 Grey Cup in Edmonton. Grant has coached minor baseball in St. Albert for the last seven years, and recently, he has been involved with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as a volunteer for the Run for the Cure, which occurs every October.
